Not much hurts the Kevlar core other than UV, crushing, and very sharp
bends.
There is "original" Phillystran that can't be terminated with grips as
the cover does not adhere to the core. I used 25K# reclaimed "original"
for my tower using potted terminations, see NCJ 11/2014.
Guy grips IMO are a bad termination for any but the smallest Philly.
You could also get a pull test done on a sample guy. Probably a good
idea for "a couple of 160ft towers." Many commercial rigging suppliers
have the pull test beds to way beyond 6700#.

Anyone know if used Phillystran is still good.
Years ago I bought some tower sections from a ham who took down several Rohn 55G towers. The fellow
handling the sale had a big pile of guy lines used for the towers. The pile was all 6700 pound
Phillystran, just as they were installed, with thimbles and short Rohn EHS guys attached to each
end. I bought the whole pile for a good price. I am thinking of using them to put up a couple
of 160 foot towers. On Friday, September 10, 2021, 04:59:49 AM CDT, Mpridesti via TowerTalk

While on a contest DXpedition to D4C, I saw that station was using what looked to be philly but was actually material used to hold very long covers used in farming (like supporting cheese cloth over large fields in growing tobacco in CT). Amazingly strong and D4C with all their trade winds, holds towers without issue. Recall it was nearly a 1/2 inch OD.
Perhaps research in the agricultural areas?
May have come from Italy. Was told it was very inexpensive.

Similar material is used in marine industry, but like everything else for a
boat it is likely pricier than DXE.

Besides DXE, I haven’t found any other suppliers for Phillystran. Texas Towers
doesn’t list it anymore either. Thought it would be nice to shop around before buying
a mile of it. Any hints?
