I think it is called progress. Groups.io allows for file sharing,
photos, a much more friendly user interface for trying to search the
group, I could go on. Many of the old mailman reflectors moved to
groups.io when it was totally free. Other lists got created because of
conflict with list owners or moderators etc. We live in a Windows
graphical environment. We put MS-DOS to bed a long time ago.
It is unfortunate that this group was not migrated to IO when it easily
could have and the transition would have been nearly seamless.
People generally use what they like. Dumbing down? They are just
choices. I prefer to be able to see attachments of photos and have
documents saved on the list. The SteppIR group hosts many different
guides and help documents for troubleshooting and much much more. When
it comes to support type questions I prefer to see pretty pictures.
I would agree with the comment that multiple lists dilute the
information. I don't think anyone needs to justify why other groups
exist. There are multiple groups on IO, FB, contesting.com etc. It is
unfortunate that most of the data here on these types of lists are not
searched by google etc. So much valuable information is archived away.
Let me get back to my 12 inch B&W TV.
