 Polyphasers block DC and have pre-determined frequency and RF power level.
Once exceeded, the Polyphaser shorts all energy to ground.  The response time
is ~10 nanoseconds.   A person can not blink that fast :}
Gas discharge units pass DC and can allow dangerous energy past the discharge
tube.
For folks that need to send a DC signal to a radio tower device, a separate
control cable is used.
A Bias Tee device inserts /  removes a DC signal from a feedline.  This Bias
Tee device also creates an impedance bump (seen by an IFR oscilloscope) =
signal loss.  Hence, I do not use them, use a separate control cable as needed.

 That's a good point, Ron.  I am not sure if there is even a static discharge
with the GDT.  The Polyphaser coax protectors are in a nice easy to mount
enclosure and not terribly expensive but I have not used them in 20 years.

Compared to what manufacturers ? What Data ? Please back up these claims of
"Maximum Protection" when it's just a GDT.
