Thanks to K4MA and KS4XG who suffered through most of the line noise,
rain static and
overall lovely conditions (K index seemed like 500!) while I was off
doing a rock and roll gig. This being
my first time seriously operating this contest from a non-DX location, I
see what all of the ruckus
about the 0 point QSOs was about. Since we were using the PVRC-NC club
call with a rarer prefix,
it was no fun to work all the Ws for no points, especially knowing that
New England was knocking
off the 3 point EUs that were in the noise here. You can believe that
the 2nd through
50th W2 prefix stn. that we worked better have been loud, because we had
ABSOLUTELY NO incentive to
spend any time trying to pull that exchange out of the muck. We must
stop the madness! This has to be
the only contest where you could conceivably work hundreds of valid
QSOs, with each QSO being a
multiplier, and finish with a score of 0!!! A 1 point/QSO same country
would not change the balance
of power (W1 would still win) - it would just make it a little more
bearable (Especially for the #51
weak W2 that called and got ignored altogether!). Dare I say that it may
also increase participation?
