Estimate I gave up at least 50 or more QSO's simply by not staying at
the radio. About 9 hours operating time total. Things just got real
slow, and I got bored. It seemed that by 0500z I just ran out of
stations to work. I probably should have started earlier than I did
(2230z.) Should have also put more thought into off-time strategy.
Other than the limited activity, the TBDC is an enjoyable contest.
I like the grid square exchange a lot, and wish it was used in more
HF contests. The distance-based scoring is also great. Speaking of
distance, I didn't work much. Only EU heard was G0IVZ, who was not
audible long enough for a QSO. Best DX was KH7R for 15 points (actually,
30 points at my 100 watts.) Listened for JA several times, but never
heard anything. Only other DX was WB9Z on VI. I usually work a lot
more stations out west. Not sure if it was lack of activity or lack of
an amplifier. Looking forward to great conditions and big scores in 1999.
Happy new year to all, and thanks for the QSOs.
