We've not done a phone multi-multi since 1993, and have never done m/m WPX
from here, so it seemed a good idea to put the station back on the air
after
having been in the Caribbean for both ARRL DXs. Also, we set out with the
goal of beating the existing W8 multi-multi record of 8.4M set by KW8N in
1986

Equipment problems: We zorched the amplifier keying relay in the 160/10
IC-756 which could not handle the relay voltage (note to PT-2500A owners,
the relay voltage is 120 VDC!). The 3-500Zs in the old reliable Henry 2K-3
on 80M appeared to be developing some sort of internal short, but it was
taken off line before any damage occurred. We replaced the Henry with an
Alpha 91B, but noted that the FT-1000D did not take kindly to being
throttled back to 40W or so to drive the amp (would occasionally show a
high
power glitch in the middle of the transmission and take the amp off line).
Maybe some ALC would have helped.

Band conditions: 20M excellent the first night, seemingly open everywhere.
15M to JA Saturday night was perhaps the best JA opening we have ever had
from this location in terms of signal strength; too bad it didn't last
longer, but thanks to the JAs for their activity. 40M mediocre to EU, also
open both nights to VK/ZL but not many QSOs.
