Equipment Description:

Yaesu FT-1000MP
Ameritron AL-1500
6 element OWA 15M Yagi on 48 foot boom on a 60 ft Rohn 55 tower on
the highest mountaintop in this area (near to the Arecibo Observatory
with the 1000 foot dish antenna).

I decided to try a single band effort from the new station that we
have built here in Puerto Rico on my "finca" (farm). It was decided to
try 15M after watching the propagation, etc. and allow me to get some
sleep. It was really fantastic and I could not believe the signal
levels and the reports that people were giving us. Some things that
really stood out were all the mobile stations worked and being called
so many times by Indonesia and Thailand when I was running Europe with
signals as strong as Europe. Working Kampuchea at 1433Z was also
a big highlight. It looks like a new record for North America was
also set since the old record was by FG5R in 1989 with 9.9M pts.
It was too bad that we got hit again by a tremendous rainstorm on
Sunday afternoon which caused 20dB over S9 rainstatic for about an
hour. It seems to always rain during contests here since it has been
dry all week. The same thing happened in the ARRL DX SSB contest here.

I want to again thank Angel, WP3R, for the use of his call and all the
help he has given in making my dream of building this station happen,
Nathan, NW3Z, for all of his hard work in helping to design and build
this station, and my longtime friend, Pedro, NP4A, who has helped out
tremendously to make this happen. Many other of my good friends
in Puerto Rico who have helped are to be thanked as well. I want to
also congratulate KP3P for another big and outstanding effort from
Puerto Rico.

73 Jim WA3FET

PS: I have to come back stateside in May and look forward to seeing you
all in Dayton.
