Equipment:
Yaesu FT-1000MP, Hygain 105CA @ 50 Ft, Henry 3K, TR-Log
Soapbox:
Operated Saturday without the Henry, so that meant I was in the "Search and
Pounce" mode cruising from about 28.350 to about 29.650 (that's a lot of
band!), mainly looking for multipliers and calling the loud stuff. If I didn't
work 'em by the third call, I moved on. Late that afternoon I fiddled with the
3K and finally got it running so I operated the rest of the test with the amp.
Got to admit, it helps in the pileups and I was able to get a couple of runs
going.
I found the band very spotty to Europe, and only worked a couple of LAs from
Scandinavia. Some big signals from Africa and SA, very little getting through
from the Oceania and Asia. ZM2K was the only ZL, heard 1 VK ("no contact"),
and
a couple of watery JAs. The days of working Europeans running 50 watts into a
dipole up in their attic haven't arrived yet for 10 meters! Lots of fun and
lots of good operators. Looking forward to CW portion.
