This was a fantastic weekend for the biggest and best contest of the
year, the CQ WW Phone!
Congratulations to the N2RM, W3LPL and VE3EJ crews for their great multi
multi scores!
160 meters: W3GH operator. Tough going to Europe except for the sunrise
opening. Good multiplier. Nice VK run Sunday morning (5).
80 meters: KA3JWJ, ND8L & K3LR ops. Very good European run at sunrise
the first day.
Nice QSO with zone 19, bent path Sunday morning. Only 1 JA QSO (5 to 10
is normal).
Less Canadian QSOs compared to previous years.
40 meters: K8GL, K9VV & W8JV ops. Steady rate to Europe. Good JA run.
New WA3FET antenna design works FB! New 4 el over 4 ele stack (fullsize
elements and 50 ft booms)at 190 feet over 120 feet. I always worry when
we change a good antenna system to something that is supposed to be
better. This time it really is! The result is an OUTSTANDING 40 meter
line of 867 QSOs, 37 ZONES and 130 countries.
20 meters: N9RV & K5TR ops. Better than average VK/ZL openings both
nights. Steady rate to Europe. K5TR says "20 meters doesn't sound this
good in Texas". First hour of 97 sets a great pace.
15 meters: K3UA, N3RA & K9ZO ops. Nice European rates and 1 big hour to
Japan (129).
UA and RA are an amazing team who got closer than we have ever been to
the N2RM 15 meter score.
10 meters: N3RA, XE2AC, K8CX & KA3JWJ ops. Europe was not as good as we
hoped.
Big time soccer matches in Argentina meant that lots of LU's were
watching TV and not working CQWW during prime time.
We had a few minor equipment problems that were repaired during the
contest.
We are looking forward to CQWW CW! See you then.
