Funny how the aurora hammered some and not others. To the best of my knowledge we never had a serious aurora shutdown (certainly not like 1993 http://www.qrz.com/wrad/directory.cgi?VA3MW ). Checking other rate sheets we found that everyone had a slowdown at 4am local on Sunday. Maybe a great time to get some sleep.
Some great rates working both Europe and the US at the same time on 15. We never did get a JA run though. The auroral curtain was likely in line. We did experience the one way curtain more than once. Lots of US stations transmitting below 7100 either working DX, or telling them to 'Listen UP'. Being 300km due north of VE3EJ, we have noticed many differences in propogation (we can hear them doing a run on 15M, and we still can't hear anyone).
One operator (whose name will not be mentioned to protect the innocent) was have such a hard time getting the call across (VICTOR ALPHA THREE SIERRA KILO) finally had to resort to VICTOR ALPHA THREE SWEATY KNUCKLES. Not sure why this worked, but the YL on the other end broke out in histerics. Amazing what is funny after 30 hours of operating.
The Corbeil Contest Club (located near North Bay) has been built on a shoe string budget. We operate from a heated horse barn gratiously supplied by VA3RTW (it is warm---really :-) ). He even lets us throw towers up everywhere. We have obtain most of our antennas by trading services and just watching for those good deals.
