About 1600Z Saturday I threw my lower back out. It was all I could
do to crawl to the radio chair. Even with 1.5 grains of codiene in
me, I was still seeing stars and in tears through much of the contest.
Definately the most painful time I've ever spent in front of the
radio. Fortunately, it turned out that sitting erect was one of the
few tolerable positions. That plus not wanting to let down my TCG
team members, I stuck it out. The real fun was trying to get into
and out of the chair. If you've had back pain, you know what I am
talking about. If you haven't, consider yourself very lucky. Off
times were dictated by both rate and pain. I took breaks earlier
than usual, which was perhaps not such a bad idea.

NAQP is still one of my favorite contests, even with the sometimes
poor conditions we get in the August edition. Couldn't get anything
going on 10 or 15 meters, and had a pitiful 10 meter multiplier number.
All of my 10 and 15 meter QSOs were S&P on the second radio, as I could
not get answers to CQs on those bands. Hopefully made up for some of
the poor mult count on 160, where I was able to hear fairly well thanks
to the Beverages installed in February. The high N4KG 40m boom dipole
works fine at 100W, and gave me the biggest QSO band this time.

Pushed the second radio harder than ever, keeping it "active" for
most of the contest. Usually I just check it every now and then, but
this time I made over 220 band changes and over 100 QSO's on rig 2.
Starting to feel a little more confident about using it. Plus, I
can always find another CQ frequency in the NAQP if I lose it. I also
CQed on rig 2 for the first time, starting to eliminate the distinction
between a "main" and "S&P" radio. Still need more A/B antenna switching
to make that a reality.

I've got to get with the mult moving game. The biggest problem is that
I still don't have a real good feel for what can be moved where and when.
Made maybe 10 successful moves and a few unsuccessful ones.

Nice to see the DX activity including LU, UT, KH6, KP2/4, and also 11-year
old Laurie KE6YNW in there. Congrats to all the TCG team players for
a great effort. See you in the SSB edition, and thanks for the QSOs.
