Very happy to be over 10K points, but need to work on the
sprint strategy/technique a little more if I'm going
to make 300. Started well on 20M but found myself out
of sync at about 45 minutes. Spent extra time there trying
to catch mults and make up Q's. 40M was good as usual. Don's
4L yagi is a tremendous antenna. Stayed a little long
on 40M trying to get over 100 Q's. Being fresh on 80M was
good
for about 30 quick Q's, but noise was tough and pulling out
the
next tier of signals was hard for me. Really didn't get it
done on 80M this time. I'll have to operate more on the low
bands and improve my skills. 20M should improve as Don is
adding a new 5L yagi at 60' soon. The LP is good, but a
second
antenna low enough for domestic work will be great.
Unfortunately a work related relocation will likely bring me
back to
the east coast soon, so I'm not sure when I'll get to do
another sprint
from Don's place. Driving 5 hours for a 4 hour event is OK,
but flying
in may be slightly over the top. If anyone has a seat near
RTP in NC
let me know :)
As always many, many thanks to Don for allowing me to pilot
W6EEN
in the contest, and to my wife for company on the drive and
taking
the photos while I worked on the big 80M tower before the
contest.
Cheers,
Mark
