WW7OR RTTY ROUNDUP NOTES:

My first try at a 2 radio RTTY contest. Very confusing at
first but got the hang of it after a while. Still, plenty
of time to watch several football games, eat and talk to the
XYL, sleep 5.5 hours and talk on 2M etc!

Hi band DX cndx to EU still not very good from the NW. Did not
seem to be much other DX on either but guess this more of a domestic
event anyway.

Still waiting for the days of "full blown" openings on 10/15/20M.
Domestic cndx good 10 thru 40M. JA Qso's way down compared
to most other contests! A 24 hour Fone/CW test would normally
produce 400 to 800 Asian Qso's. Gess RTTY mode not big in JA.
Did catch a BD4 on 15M tho. Nice also to get good 10M
openings even if only mostly Domestic action. Missed NV, NT
and YT....heard VY1SS but never connected. Did catch CT and
ND which many found scarce.

My pet peeve are stations that call you and give the complete
exchange without even stopping to see if you have acknowledged
their call!! Not complaining tho cause I'm just glad they
are there and trying and helping me keep my rate up!

Bring them on "the large and the short and tall" on frequency
or not, weak or loud, skilled and unskilled....it all adds
up to fun fun fun!!

Bob Wruble is W7GG. Bob is also trustee for club call signs AI7b,
(Three Rivers Contest Club) and WW7OR (Three Rivers DX Club).

Other call signs previously held by W7GG include: W7TDK, WA1KND,
 W7CAT, FS5T, PJ2BW, XE2/Ai7b and XE2/W7GG, WP2Z/W7GG.

Bob's station is located in High Desert country 25 miles S.W. of Madras,
Oregon in Jefferson County where annual rainfall is only 11 inches and
the days are sunny and with very low humidity.

Grid Square = CN94 Jefferson County, Oregon

The QTH is located in the Three Rivers recreation area that sits
on a plateau behind Round Butte Resevior. There are four towers erected
on 5 acres of land at an elevation of 3400 feet. This is the future
 retirement QTH for W7GG.

Bob's station has been optimized for radio contesting, Bob's primary
interest. He is presently trying to master two radio contesting
 techniques!!

This remote QTH is great for Ham Radio because there is no commercial
power, water, or telephone. Man made noise is obviously very low.
There are 700 property owners but only about 45 live at Three Rivers
full time! So, during the winter contest season the place is nearly
 deserted.

Power is provide by a state of the art Solar System utilizing a Trace
Sinewave Inverter backed up by a 12KW Onan diesel generator. Water is
deliverd and stored in a 1300 gallon storage tank. Propane and diesel
are also delivered and stored on site. A Cellular telephone and
2 meter FM rigs provide communications to the outside world.

Tower #1: 105 feet of Rohn 25. Antennas on tower one are a Telerex
 TB-6 Tri-Bander, a Cushcraft 402 2el 40M yagi, a 2M Ringo Ranger on
top of the mast and a Hygain TH-2 Tri-Bander side mounted at the 60
foot level and fixed pointed on the Caribean.

Tower #2: 190 feet of Rohn 55 in a rotating tower configureation.
The top 150 feet rotate thanks to Dick's, K5IU rotating tower
components. Antennas on tower 2 include two Cush 13 element 2M yagis
vertically polarized and 2 horizontally polarized. They are 195 feet
off the ground and have their own separate rotator!

Three KLM KT-34XA's stacked and phased via a WX0B stackmaster phasing
box. Two full sized home brewed 40M yagis stacked and phased, again
using a WX0B stack master box. The 40M yagis are on 50 foot booms
and weigh in at 350 lbs each!

Tower #2 also supports two four wire vertical arrays for 160M and 80M
fed and switched by Comtek Hybrid Couplers.

 Tower #3: 150 feet of Rohn 45. Antennas include a R-7000 trap
vertical on the top of the mast at 165 feet. A Cushcraft 402 2el 40M
 yagi at 158 feet, a TH-6 tribander at 150 feet, a 5el Telerex 15M
monobander fixed on Europe at 140 feet, a Telrex 5el mono bander at
130 feet fixed on Europe and a A3S Cushcraft tribander at 75 feet
 fixed on the Caribean.

 Tower #4: 65 feet of Rohn 45. Antennas include a Cushcraft 6el 6M
 yagi at 65 feet and a Hy-Gain TH-5MK tri-bander at 55 feet. This
tower also supports 12 Solar panels and a 400 watt wind generator.

Equipment used by W7GG includes the following:

 2-Yaesu FT-1000MP's 1-Yaesu FT-990DC 1-ICOM IC-706
 1-Alpha 77SX, 1-Alpha 87, 1-Alpha 91B 1-TenTec Titan
 2-PC Clones, 2-HAL P38 Digital Demodulator Cards

Comtek Phasing boxes and switches used with the 80/160M 4 squares.
Dunestar eight position antenna switches for control of 21 HF
antennas..
Antenna phasing boxes by Array Solutions, WX0B.
8 pole antenna switches by Dunestar.

Contest Software by N6TR and WF1B........
