Well, this was a frustrating weekend. I wanted to make this my 'comeback to
contesting' so to speak. However, my 40m dipole had fallen due to a tree
falling in our backyard. I spent 2 days, and countless hours trying to get it
back up before the test, but alas, it was not to be.

So I decided I'd go with the 20m dipole at 25 feet by itself and tune on the
other bands.
Hooked up the radio Friday night, turned it on, and bam, lots of noise. I
finally narrowed it down to the Power supply or the PS fan on my new PIII
computer. Time for a new one I guess.

But, all was not lost, I have a P75 box that I can boot to either dos or linux,
so I hooked that up, installed the networking stuff in win 3.11 on it,
transferred over TR from my main puter, and boom, I could use that computer
only, no noise. Finally got all this done around 3 AM Saturday morning.

Went to sleep, woke up at 10 or so. Turned on the radio to contest, and bam,
guess what now? You guessed it, s9 power line noise. I couldn't hear worth
diddle. Went around and worked the loudest guys I could find that made it over
my noise level, but with my low dipole, not many guys are over s9 when they're
beaming away from you. Even Dan, N6MJ, who was beaming right at me from W6KP
on 15 CW, was barely above my noise.

Finally I said forget it, it was becoming way too frustrating. Kept checking
back thru the day and Sunday, noise was still there on all bands, and it's gone
today (Monday). Go figure.

So a frustrating return to contesting for me. WW SSB is out, due to my aunt
getting married that weekend, but anyone wanna host a 17 year old for SS CW/SSB
in the general Seattle area?
