Comments:

This contest can be so much fun. This year was amazing. I thought 1999 would
not be duplicated soon. I was wrong.

The most unusual thing I have heard in radio in a long time happened Saturday
night. Normally, even at the top of the cycle, 10 meters does not open for DX
in late May. Maybe some e-skip or transequitorial paths. At 1:00am local, the
band opened WIDE to Europe. 10 over S9 signals. Maybe W4ZV was ready for it,
but it sure took us by surprise. BTW, we stayed about 15 minutes and left. No
volume, and 40 and 20 were still cranking big numbers.

Used a $400 TS-830 to run the first 24 hours. Swapped it out because I didn't
have a PTT line from the computer to the amp and we were dropping initial
characters. Frankly, I like that receiver better than the MPs, and they have
less in-band phase noise. One thing for sure... you don't need to spend $3K
for a radio to do a contest. OH!! And the noise blanker works! Such-a-deal.

Plenty of Murphy at the start. New found respect for you
normally-multi-something station owners. This is hard. I'm committed to
getting it right. We'll be QRV in November, and ready to play (minus secret
weapon K4BAI).
