Equipment Description: FT1000D, TA33 at 38', Alpha Delta DX-LB, Inv L for 80M
6 hrs into this years torture test I was ahead of my best effort
from the home station. 10M and 15M were open late with lots of great
multipliers. After a 1.5 hr sleep break I was ready for the morning, looking
forward to some good rate into Europe. Not to be. I left the
station for almost 2 hrs Saturday morning to help a fellow contester who was
having logging problems. Neither one of us were happy about this as he lost
all of his previous night Qs and I was not at the radio. I had the best hour
of the contest, a measely 56Qs when I got back home. The rest of the day was
slow, 20-30Q hrs. I kept at it until 0600Z though my energy levels were low,
lots of short breaks. After a 4Q hour, I was fairly fed up. I took a 6 hr
break. Back on at 1300Z and slogged it out all day Sunday but could not get
any rate. Missed the US on 40M, aarrggghh! I was lucky to break a million.
I got psyched out by the wierd/good/bad propagation and low rates. On a
positive note I figured out I could key in the sub VFO frequency faster from
the keypad than I could spin the dial while working 40M split. Packet was
better than last year, but I could not spot without getting dumped.
