Comments:
this was my fourth year operating from the carribeans, and has been the case
in the past, it was just an absolute ball again this year !
thanks to everyone who worked me, enjoyed all of the q's !
some of the highlights of the test and getting to the island this year were,
1. watching my carry on bag go through the X-ray machines and watching the
look on the faces of the person operating the X-ray machines, looking at
what was in the bag, looking up at me, looking at the bag again, looking at
me with a very puzzled look, grabbing the bag, opening it up, grabbing the
pair of 3-500Z's out of the bag and wondering what they were !! Answer was
easy, there were transmitting tubes for a piece of federal communications
equipment !! no problem !!
2. Best rates, and the most fun was the last five hours of the test, rates
never went below 225, stayed between 225 and 275 for the entire time !
was awsome ! and fun !
3. biggest pileup, was showing up on 20 mtrs at 2300Z sunday afternoon !
In the past 14 yrs of contesting, I had thought I had been in some big
pileups, this one took the cake ! I made one c.q. call, and it seemed like
the entire contesting community opened up on me ! was truly something to
hear on my end ! After that experience, I now truly understand what if
feels like to be "fresh meat" in a small pond with some very hungry
piranha's !!!
4. equipment this year was limited as was not sure about taking so
much with me this year,
Omni 6 plus
Ten-Tec Centurion amp with some old worn out 3-500Z's !
old 486 laptop
and all 4,964 Q's were made on a single 5 band butternut vertical
with about a dozen or so radials laid out on the ground
73... Ken..... PJ7/K7ZUM...... CANT WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR !
