________

Initial rate worse than last year with just 100 watts and the single vertical.
The broasde array at a quarter wavwe spaccing has minimal gain, and apart from
W7/VE7, the end fire position firing South West was as good!; moral, must try
to engineer and end fire arrangement into the US, or increase the spacing to a
half wave (difficult).

Some auroral disturbance noted, but not as bad as might have been exepected
from the forecast.

The long path is difficult from G at this time of year, but got N7UA and VE7CC
that way. Also heard VE6WQ around 1600z Sunday, but surely that can't have been
true LP? Perhaps some polar path propagation as we often see from VE6JY on the
HF bands, anyone know?

By the Sunday morning the band was almost worked out, and moyivation was
difficult to maintain. Later on a fresh " population" was in evidence, but many
of these seemed to be running QRP into a half sized G5RV, and copy in the Eu
QRM
was quite dificult.Getting the state was relatively easy, but the full call, in
QSB/QRM was often difficult. In these situations I found it difficult to get
across that all I wanted was confirmation of the correctness of the call, as I
had sent it ( preferably in the form of "r r r r") and not a repeat of the
whole exchange, when the QSB took its toll on the vital bit!

However, thanks to everybody who perseverd in these situation, although a very
few just walked away :-(
