Comments:

Conditions were absolutely great--though perhaps not quite as good as last
year. There were certainly fewer mults on the air (I'm glad to see K3WW report
the same thing). Unfortunately I was violently ill for about 3 hours starting
at 3 AM local time Sunday, but I was able to recover enough to spend the rest
of the contest in the chair--albeit not in top shape.

The disproportionality in my 20- and 10-meter numbers is mainly because of
three things: (1) I missed more than an hour of the really prime EU sunrise
Saturday morning (that was just stupid--I took my one-sleep-unit break at the
wrong time!); (2) I had a really enjoyable time working JAs on 10 on Saturday
afternoon and early evening (which hurt my 40-meter total and mults--but it was
still the right place to be at the time, on balance); and (3) the aforementioed
illness.

If I could wind the clock back to 0530Z on Saturday, I would make some changes
to my operating plan that I estimate would have added about 500k to my score,
which would bring it in just a shade over last year's. If I could wind it back
three weeks, I would have quit my job so I could have slept 8 hours each night
before the contest and been in 100% better mental condition for the event!

ARRL CW is one of my very favorite contests. It's very different from CQWW CW,
which is one of the reasons why I love to operate both of them; they have
entirely separate character, strengths and weaknesses. (And, thankfully this
year, conditions!) And . . . I don't care where the results are published; the
contest won't die if it's not printed on paper somewhere.

Finally, I look forward to meeting many of the OHs and other Northern EU
stations I worked in Helsinki this July--I am really getting psyched for the
trip! Hope to see many of you there.--73, Rus, K2UA
