Comments:

When K5OT and I learned that we were both going to be visiting Texas during a
particular weekend in mid-February, we started looking around for opportunities
to operate in an electric radio competition that happened to occur during the
same weekend. We ended up at W5KFT's station in Central Texas for ARRL CW.

Since we both wanted to enjoy the full capabilities of Bryan's fine setup, we
opted to enter the Multi-2 category. This decision created the time mangement
decisions and sleep deprivation normally enjoyed by serious single-op
participants.

Set-up was a significant challenge, since neither of us had operated from the
W5KFT ranch before. We wanted to have an SO2R-like capability at one of the
two positions, to enable trolling for multipliers while otherwise occupied in a
run situation. We had hoped to accomplish these preparations in 3-4 hours,
which would have provided us with a few hours before the contest to chat a bit
more about strategies and perhaps even take a nap. However, the setup took the
full six hours that we had available prior to the start of the event. Onward!

The actual operation during the contest went pretty smoothly. With our limited
prior exposure to the station, we likely didn't take full advantage of various
antenna options available. Each of us abandoned the radios for a few hours of
sleep, to consume a bit of food and drink....and to deal with the consequences
of consuming a bit of food and drink.

Our first-time jitters were greatly eased by Rob, K5PI, who worked out a few
kinks in the station and answered numerous questions that we had prior to our
arrival. And our thanks to Bryan, W5KFT....a real pleasure to operate from a
fine station during a weekend that was blessed with good propagation.

Phil, N6ZZ (and Larry, K5OT)
