Comments:

We went into this one expecting it to be the great Caribbean M/S shoot-out, and
we weren't disappointed. Will & Jim on 8P, Andy and Carl on P4, Goose & gang
on PJ2...and Rick and me here on Little Cayman. Rick (N6XI) was my secret
weapon, because he is very good at making sense out of the stuff sent by those
old guys on a straight key that sounds to me like nothing but RFI getting into
the keyer. I also thought I had the inside track with VY1JA, who was supposed
to find us Sunday afternoon for a triple mult. He didn't, alas, but it seems
he did find our competition! All I can say is...congratulations to K4MA and
AA4NC on a super job. They beat is the right way: they simply out-operated
us. A fantastic showing there from 8P9JA.

The bands were great, as everybody has noted, but the people weren't. You
expect to see real low rates at 3 a.m. Sunday morning, but then again on Sunday
afternoon??? I sure hope the ARRL has some exciting tricks up their sleeve to
drum up interest on their contests, after they stop publishing results, but I'm
not holding my breath. Maybe it's time to consider making this one a 24 hour
contest? I'd vote for that one.

Equipment: Bencher Skyhawk (tribander) at 65', 40m wire dipole at 50',
inverted V for 80 and 160 with peak at about 60'. It sure would have been nice
to have that 3 el 40 beam Jim & Will had. But it's interesting to note that we
didn't suffer on the low bands, despite such puny antennas, but rather fell
back on 10 and 15. We're simply too close to FL down here, and as everybody
knows most of the good CW ops in the US have now retired and moved to FL.
