Just awesome! What a blast, sure one of the best contests in my 14 years of
contesting.
Is this a new section 7 record?? Iīm sure itīs one in Wyoming...
Let me notice that this was a single OP, single radio, single tower, single
boom operation!
Is there any SOAB HP out there with a single tower and single boom antenna who
beat me???
All antennas are tied to a single 190 footer by Rohn.
160m: Vertical Lazy Vee towards EU, centerfed
80m: 1-Lambda Dipol centerfed with open wire transm. line
40,30: 2L Quad
20-10: 4L Quad
The 7 band quad is fixed on 4 fiberglass crosses.
Though 160m completely dissappointed, couldnīt even hear a whisper of
MD/DL5AXX..., 80m was way better with 12 EU Qīs and 37 mults in the log. This
is also thanx to the 700ft beverage to EU Jim put up last year.
20m was a killer. The band did not die during the entire weekend, great
openings during both nights thru north pole let me work hundreds of Russians
and EUs between 5 and 8z. I even worked DL3DXX @ 5W at 10z! 3 hours before
contest end it was almost impossible to find a free spot on 20. Iīm not
kidding, the first free spot I found was at 14.117MHz where I immediately
started my CQ. The band was just boiling. Never heard that before.
15m was not as worth noticing as 20 was, well, 753 Qīs are not that bad.
I love 10m for these incredible pile ups. Saturday 13-15z I had such massive
pile ups that kept me from having higher rates than 135 Qīs/hr. It was damn
tough to pick up a single call out of this boiling pile. Should have done more
PED practice in advance...
The risk to oversleep was much too high, btw I did it last year and lost 5
hrs... So I decided to flood my blood with coffeine instead. Drank liters of
coffee. Started to get some halluzinations and black outs Sunday morning, when
I noticed that my brain is getting asleep while my body was still awake.
Couldnīt decode the incoming calls anymore from time to time :-( But again,
coffee helped and some neat exercises in front of the radio.
Congrats to Steve N2IC who did again a great job down in Denver just about 500
miles south of Fremont County, WY. Sure his second radio helped to pull out a
few hundreds Qīs I was missing at the end.
Since I had no 2nd radio I decided to go assisted again. DXTELNET and CT9.68
were working flawlessly. I guess 80% of all pop up dx spots in the Mult window
of CT had been worked. Great feature.

Donīt know whether I can make it again next year. Maybe Iīll be back in Germany
due to job commitments. Will see.
