My first ever 160 m. operating in 38 years of hamming.
Just never got a round TUIT, I gess! First 160m. Q was K1LT. I need to get
a QSL off to him, even tho it was a contest, hi hi. More fun than a flyin'
pig in slop. Rig: Yaesu FT-817 Pwr: 5 watts Ant: end fed wire 140' feet long,
using a 66.7 ft. counterpoise Tuner: MFJ941E. The dinette of my Winnebago
Rialta motor home was my shack table! Next yr, I will try shorting the coax of
my 80m. dipole and see what happens! I had to retune every 20 KHz, which was
somewhat of a pain, but still had a great time. Tnx to ALL the stations who
worked me. Some really made a valiant try with many repeats needed to
complete
the QSO. Many gave a "sri, can't pull u out of the noise" or something
similar. The QRM was attrocious, with many signals at 40 over S-9! I was
really surprised to make as many Q's as I did (one per meter of freq. hi)! I
heard several DX stns, but wasn't able to contact them. After about 120 Q's, it
was hard to find any that weren't dupes. Only 14 Q's the last two hours of
op'ing. Farthest stns were STX and CO. Tnx for all the WI, IN, MI, and IL
stns for being out there! I gess u east coast stns just let the snow pile up.
Might just as well op the contest and wait for the storm to blow out to sea,
than to shovel the driveway 5 times. HI. At least that's what I do here in MI.
Catch y'all next year. 72 and 73 ! ! --Ken, WA8REI
