Comments:
Huge storm broke just as the contest started. Passed very
quickly and weather was not an issue for the rest of the
contest.
Or maybe it was. Something or other provoked line noise at
first light on Sunday. I kept at it for a while, but with s9
QRN it was obvious that there were several layers of callers
that I could not pull through. Pulled the plug at 15z after
several very poor hours spent listening to noise.
Interesting conditions, to say the least. Had good success CQing
on 20 with the beams pointed SE on Friday night. Great activity
from South America. 15 meters was very strange on Saturday. I
had a pipeline to the Balkans, and everything east of Moscow.
Later the opening switched to Poland. But I could not work a
German or a UK station for anything. I worked my first G4 of any
kind on Sunday morning.
Probably the most fun I had was on 75 meters the second night. Had
a good run of W/VE with an EU reply every third or fourth QSO.
By that time, all the serial numbers had gone out to 4 digits, and
passing those through the QRN was quite a challenge.
I've got all summer to work on this line noise, so I'll be back
for another try at this contest. Thanks for the QSOs, and thanks to
K9MI for the loan of the club call.
