Comments:

The Phone SS certainly was different for the northern half of the country
with the 'K' index jumping between 4 and 5. I found the propagation to
the north and NW to be rather shallow and non existent most of the time.

I didn't hear Jay, VY1JA as I searched for NT on 20M Sunday afternoon,
but I did run across stations trying to call VY1MB. After checking
back on the frequency a number of times I finally started to hear
VY1MB and eventually snagged NT for section #79. That left, would you
believe, VE2 for the sweep. After not even hearing a VE2 by 0200Z
I decided to look on the Topband and caught VE2RP as he finished
chatting with another station on 1840. Fortunatelly Pierre obliged
my request for an SS QSO and section #80 was in the log for the
Clean Sweep!

20M seemed to be my best band. The 5 element yagi played well, even
with 1/2 of one side of the reflector removed by hurricane Isabell.
The 80M wire vertical played well but I found 40M to be very tough
with low power and switched slopers. Best hours were 77, 77 & 75.
Worst hours, 5 of them, were in the 20's. Looking forward to more
stable conditions for the 2004 SS contests.
