This adventure began a number of months ago when N6MU got a call from K5CWR
inviting him to join a serious mobile multi-multi effort in this year's TQP. As
time passed N5CE from OK and KQ0B from MO also joined the team. The three
gunslingers flew into San Antonio late Thursday. Friday was spent getting
organized and driving west to our starting point in Sterling County. The vehicle
used was K5CWR's Chevy Silverado double cab pickup truck.

Our TQP journey almost ended before it began Friday afternoon. While driving
west on I-10 in a torrential downpour our pickup began hydroplaning and sliding
sideways down the passing lane. We entered the median area and hit a small
concrete culvert at the bottom that blew both driver side tires. The pickup
started to roll but jumped the culvert and slid up the other side of the median
into oncoming traffic. The engine was still running and we were able to get off
the road. Only a few cuts and bruises were suffered. As KQ0B so aptly put it,
"It just wasn't our time to go". The fact that we were able to get the truck
fixed and back on the road was amazing as well. What an E-ticket ride!

We had three rigs going on 40, 20 and 15 both CW and SSB. If you look up
"cramped" in the dictionary our picture is there. N6MU's job as the 40 meter op
was to work as many county multipliers as possible. To that end he found 173.
N5CE and KQ0B handled 20 and 15 admirably. The 15 meter rig was a late add that
paid big dividends yielding roughly 400 Qs and the bilk of our 18 DX mults (tnx
KQ0B!). The remaining mults were 42 states and 5 VE provinces. We drove some
1300 miles and activated 41 counties.

K5CWR/M totals were 2900 Qs and 1.8M points. Not bad for four guys in a pickup
who had never met before but formed one heck of a team. A special thanks to
K5CWR for all his coordination and hospitality. See you next year?? 73...

The K5CWR/M Team (Fred, K5CWR; Gene, N5CE; John, N6MU; Mike, KQ0B)
