Comments:
Let me also start with - my best score ever. Condiditons seemed to be better
than previous years but feeling was still not as it should be. First night was
normal with start and no real loud US signals. When amp. "got angel's wings"
after few hours into the contest I wanted to quit. Low power in 160m contest is
just not for old people :-) Not being so old, I tried with barefoot with bad
luck - called FM5GU,ZF2NT and many US stations but very few return. After band
went down amp has came back to earth with some repairment actions and I decided
to go on. Reward was in one hour opening at 02 UTC to USA and in few nice DX
stations called in. In the middle of pile up from USA momentarily something went
wrong - it was friend Bruce ZF2NT who come on the QRG and stream of statesiders
started to flow down south:-) Tried to get at least Bruce but could not break
the pile. Afterwards, when conditions went back to normal tried to pick up some
more US stations and remember that called AE9B (and some others too, like WB9Z)
for few minutes with no succes.
JA was very poor for us this year. Heard many more mults but they mostly called
stations and it seems that "my haircut" was just not attractive to many of
them:-)
All in all, there is plenty of room for improvement like 999 EU qsos this year
means that 1k is new target:-)Unfortunately there is no room for larger antennas
and will still have to stick with 3 half slopers.
73 to all,
Tine Brajnik, S50A
