Comments:

It was a Lord's gift - a nice weather with temps around 25- 27 deg C from
Thursday to Monday morning.
We've learned our lesson last year, so we got together on Wednesday evening at
LZ9W QTH. For next two days a hard work has been done by all the team members -
LZ3UM and LZ5VK got all antennas rotating and new antenna tracking devices
working properly (their work really paid off ). LZ2FV has made voice keyers for
each of 6 running positions. After a long discussions about how exactly a
lightweight verticals to be made for low bands we finally found the way to make
them. Verticals masters LZ1UQ,LZ2UU and LZ2CJ has made in next two days - 26m
shortened vertical for 160m and 2 el phased quarter wave verticals for 80m.
However we left phasing to be made by another team member and unfortunately he
made it wrong which costed us very low QSO number after first 12 hours on 80m.
LZ2FV and LZ2CJ changed the phasing line on the Saturday morning and antenna
started working properly, but a lot of time been lost. We'll not make this
mistake agn in CW part :-). Somehow the radials of the 160m vertical got over
the loading coil first night and we undertsood this only on Saturday morning, so
first 8 hours on top band were also lost. These problems reflect a low QSO Nos.
on 80 and 160m.
>From 40m and up everything was running smoothly and we made a much better scores
on these bands than last year.
We started contest kind of relatively low power M/M using only three full legal
power amps - Alpha 91b on 80m, ACOM 2000A on 15m and home made "Chopper" on 40m.
Rest were TL922's and LZ2UZ's ACOM 1000.
>From planned monoband PAs on two GU74b LZ1HD was able to finish on Saturday
afternoon only one of these for 20m and putting this amp on air changed things
significantly.Just imagine how it will be for 2005 WPX SSB in March 2005 with
all 3 mono band PAs running :-).
Condx were better than expected and it was a real fun for all the team members
to operate in 2004 CQWW SSB.
Differently from previous years there was also an increased JA activity and
quite a number of stations from China showed up,too. Good news for us in South
East Europe !
