Comments:

I felt bad not getting closer to 300 Qs and being down on mults until I saw some
of the scores and comments on 3830 this morning. No excuses, antennas all
working well (even the KT36XA is working as is should), no line noise, no
atmospheric noise and well rested. Again 40 was by far my strongest band, even
with all the rtty qrm. I suspect situation on 20 was simply propagation and I'll
have to analyze some of the other scores from this area. While I didn't have any
trouble working stuff east of the Mississippi with the dipole at 50 ft or west
of big muddy using the N4KG special, I seem to get beat our more on 80.

Heard two mults that I missed. They were VT and a Maritime station. It was nice
to find Todd WD0T sending out low serial numbers on 80 right at the end!

In the past I had fun participating on the SE teams, but for the past couple of
events FRC and PVRC have sponsored club combined teams that I've participated
on.

Someone made a comment about stations and mults that would normally be on for
the cw sprint not being there. A few others have made comments about working
both RTTY WPX and the Sprints. In just looking around yesterday I noticed
several calls on RTTY that didn't show up for the Sprint that have in the past.
I could certainly live with the RTTY guys even though I heard them drop as low
as 7023 during the contest, but I'm certain that they hurt the Sprinters who
can't go below 7025. On the contest reflector there was some discussion about
the number of rtty contests there are vs the number of cw events. I don't think
those numbers mean a whole lot because the activity in many of each is so low as
not to affect the bands greatly. There was some discussion about some weekend
swapping that would involve cw sprint, rtty wpx and the FOC marathon that should
well suite everyone. Seems that Tree's plate is overflowing with everything he's
doing with the hobby not to mention a family and personal life, but as the
manager it would be great if he could facilitate an equatable move.

While I remain amazed with how well some of the wire antenna guys such as N2NL,
KU8E, N4OGW and N4GG do in various contests, that should be encouragement for
others who are tower/aluminum limited to get on for the Sprints and NAQPs. After
putting a 20 meter dipole up 40 feet in the trees to play with SO2R, I was
reminded that while beams are most beneficial, a properly working dipole is no
slouch. I didn't use SO2R in the cw Sprint because with my limited capability
and limited skills it didn't seem to help in the last one.

As always, ready for the next Sprint!
