Comments:

Operated portable for what may be the last time, as new house contsruction and
radio shack near completion in FN41ej in Rhode Island at 140 ft elevation 2.2
miles from Block Island Sound. Operated from the site using plywood on two
sawhorses for a desk and Honda 3500 for AC power.

Ran 500 watts on each band: FT-847 to Commander II on 2-meters and modified
SB-220 on 6-meters. Antennas on portable masts: Stacked C3i proptype by K1JX
Yagis at 10 and 30 feet on 6-meters; and stacked FO12's at 20 and 30 feet on
2-meters.

Sunday was a struggle on 6 working only locals with a short opening to 0-land
just before midnight for some EN multipliers. Sunday, 6-meters was
fantastic...open almost all day long getting great reports of being LOUD in
Florida and the Southeast [EL, EM, and coastal FM grids]. The band didn't quit
until just before the end of the contest. Two meters was a
disappointment, making half the number of Qs made two years ago from a
mountaintop in New York state. High population density areas of NY, NJ, PA and
CT seldom point their beams this far EAST, so they don't hear us stations in RI
and Cape Cod.

But the prolonged 6-meter opening with great runs of callers made for great fun.
Next time I should have the permanent antennas and station installed. Thanks to
all who called in and hope all had fun. Send those logs in! 73!
