Vanja, S59AV says in his excellent write-up "Field day is...":

Assembling antennas, starting power generator, soldering connectors,
night shifts, bursts of mini pile-ups, elmering young operators, erecting
and
dismantling of tent, metheorological balloon supporting wire vertical for
160m
band, watching starry sky, Silva's olive bread, barbecue, case of beer,
fried
fish, all the stories and anecdotes from ham life, old good CW...

All this is beauty and real value of the Field Day. Great chance to
gatter together, to chat, to step out of running train of hectic and
stressful
everyday life and to find again all the beauty of our hobby.

Good atmosphere, old friends... Score achieved is of minor value here.
(End of quote)

Some more anecdotes: Field day is solving technical issues on the fly,
fixing
band-to-band QRM due to proximity of antennas and RFI feedback into one of
computers, causing choppy CW, Field Day is running pile-ups in spite of
roaring thunderstorm until lightning strike (actually, cloud-to-cloud
discharge) caused rerseting of all computers in network, (no other harm,
fortunately, so we continued after some 20 minute rest, when pauses between
roars became just a bit longer), Field Day is sleeping on bare ground until
you awake wet to the bones and find you are lying in the middle of the pool
of rain water which found its way into the tent, Field Day is spark
(statical
electricity discharge) from unplugged 40m antenna connector, resting on
housing of one of computers which made operator on duty, scarced, nearly
fall
of the chair... And, Field Day is, in lack of resources (no wire vertical
for
160m band this year), improvising with 80m band antenna and still manage to
put
two valuable top band Qs (and multipliers) into the log... All in all,
in despite of technical issues, bad weather, heavy QRN and lousy CONDX, we
had
lot of fun and enjoyed the contest very much!

While last year's newbies YL Anka, S57ONE, Robi, S57OWA and Vili, S56ZTT
became in
meantime regular, trusty members of the team and among most busiest in all
club
activities, this year we had pleasure to greet among us Gapi (Casper),
S57GD,
14 years old guy who passed ham exams just few months ago. We all admire his
eagernes
to learn and gain experiences, his skills, his love to CW and to our hobby
and his
enthusiasm. Since young operators are still scarced of fast CW, computer
logging and
heavy shortwave contest QRM, we assembled club's IC-821 so they could
operate S5 June
VHF-UHF contest, in more old fashioned way (pen and paper logging, hand key,
etc),
and, in spite of low activity (due to bad weather) managed to make UFB
score!

As always, Silva, S51VI's wife spoiled us with delicious food, fish pate,
olive
bread, huge pot of minestrone broth, heap of roasted cutlets, lot of coffee
and
even big cream cake with inscription "S58U/P" on the top of it! Beside that,
our
new friend Tone, S52PA contributed local red grape-wine and some kilograms
of hash
so we continued with barbecue party still after we dismantled antennas and
tents.

We are most grateful to Ales, S56LPY, who let us operate from his ranch
again, and
we were happy to be visited by Dane, S57CQ, ST2T, etc and his wife Goranka -
although
Dane didn't operate he helped us actively assembling masts and antennas. We
are
thankful also to Ivan, S54A who, in despite of business and family
commitments and
obligations as current president of our national ham radio organisation
found time
to visit us and even contribute dozen of contacts in our log, and we are
grateful to
all our guests and their family members who visited us, lend hand for
assembling
and dismantling all the stuff or with their presence, good mood, roguery and
vivacity
made this Field Day not just one of contests, but one of greatest annual
club's
events and big family party: Ales, S56IAI, Franko, S57JEL (we must thank him
for
unselfish logistical support as well), Tone, S52PA, Branko, S58AW, Edi,
S57UKE, Silva,
S51VI's wife, Tatjana, S58MU's wife with daughter Spela and son Nejc, Stane,
S52RO
with daughter Tina and son Blaz, Brigita, wife of S59AV with daughters
Angelca and
Julija, Katja, sister of S59AV with sons Vid and Voranc and Danijela,
S57NKI, wife of
S57LO, with son Rok and daughter Maja. They all tightened bonds among us and
made
us feel to be members of great ham family!
