Comments:
Some great conditions (160-20) and some poor conditions (10-15).
New 80m vertical played well (2 el. toward Europe). 80m QSO totals lead 40m by a
couple of hundred till Sunday afternoon -- had trouble getting any runs going on
40 till then.
15 seemed full of signals both mornings but very tough getting good runs going
as strong as were available on 20 so went back to 20m to run and worked most
stuff on 15 with the second radio (only 50-100 watts). No KL7 or JA on 15, but a
couple of ZL and KH6 worked. Never found a KH6 on 20.
Slow start to 20m opening in the morning meant I could linger longer than usual
on 40. With the beam south I picked up several Zone 17 stations and 9N, HS, YB,
BV, and some other Asian goodies that I usually miss. Tried the afternoon LP to
Asia both days but only snagged a UA0 zone 18 for a double mult and a couple of
JAs.
160 conditions were good to Europe both nights and as usual I spent more time
there than I should have. CQing brought some short runs. Heard TZ5 and ZS4TX
working other stations but couldn't find them to work. Saturday night was one of
those unusual times when the transmit verticals were hearing better than the
phased Beverages.
Not much to say about 10 meters of course; excitement was working a ZS and just
hearing one YU station. Sunday afternoon around 2000z I heard ZL6QH for the only
station west of Zone 4 (other than HC8N) heard on the band all weekend. I tried
calling for 10 minutes or so with the low power 2nd radio but couldn't get their
attention.
Nice to work KL7 and JA on 80m well before sunrise. But in the evening Saturday
I heard several UN and UA9 stations in zone 17 but couldn't raise them.
Never heard a JT on any band all weekend. Heard no Zone 2 on any band all
weekend. Heard 9N7JO both mornings LP on 20m 0930-1000z but couldn't raise him.
Took just one 2 hour break (90 minute nap and 30 minutes to wake up!) from
0640-0840z Sunday.
Good news was nothing broke down, although we had one brief scare with a power
outage Friday evening -- just enough to cause the computer to reboot and blink
the lights and amps.
