Comments:

This was a particularly fun year to run this contest mobile becasue the band
conditions were very different that previous years. THe biggest difference from
my perspective was almost no prodctivity from 15 meters. In past years, the
entire effort was anchored around doing well on 15 meters in the day and 20
meters in the early evening. This year, the key differences were 20 and 80
meters. I found out this year that 300 W and a Texas bugcatcher can fool people
into thinking you're actually not mobile. Of course we still look ridiculous
driving down the road with a compact car with a 10' antenna on top guyed to the
corners of the car. As one CHP officer inquired upon walking up to the car
"trying to talk to alien life forms?" instead of the usual "may I see
your...."

Anyway, this year's "worked AQL" award goes to WD5K with 22 Q's in the log for a
new all time record, and honorable mention going again to John, K4BAI and also
K7SV with 19 Q's each(!) according to my count. This is what makes the contest
fun, you get to re-run the beginning in each county. This year I also took a
closer look at how many stations have repeat QSOs. The results are interesting.
The following is a histogram of the call sisgns worked, it lists the number of
calls I worked only once, twice, three times etc:

1 - 200
2 - 80
3 - 54
4 - 21
5 - 22
6 - 16
7 - 15
8 - 14
9 - 8
10- 1
11- 4
12- 2
13- 4
14- 0
15- 3
16- 0
17- 0
18- 2
19- 2
20- 0
21- 1

I've made some errors in rolling up the results because the total doesn't equal
1435 but it still draws the picture: only about 1 in 7 calls I work are unique.
Higher ratios may be common in other state QSO parties as well - has anyone
computed the stats? Another aspect of this year was the number of California
stations in the log. I worked 30 counties(!) more than half whch is very
unusual compared to past years where I may have less than 10 CA stations in the
log by staying on the highest band.

As a final note, the participation from VE was great and made a big difference
in keeping the bands busy, noted by:
