I started this contest intending to operate 5 or 6 hours, just too much to do
this weekend. After three hours into the test, the rate was 127, 155, and 151,
hey, this is good. But then the rain started, and I couldn’t hear, so I took a
half hour off. The rain died down, and the rate went back up to 118. More rain,
time off, rate up, then rain, time off. I read an email after the contest from a
gentleman in Texas, who inferred I must have been running power, and couldn’t
hear. Looking at the log, his comment was ten minutes before I shut down the
third time. But then 40m opened up, and I had a 113 hour, and a 137 hour. Then I
was hooked, but more rain, and a complete struggle on 40, 80, and 160. Then it
was too late to quit, so I kept operating between rain showers……..with low rate.
Where was RI, worked every other state. I will not cook bacon for awhile; it
would only remind me of the low bands at the end of the contest.

All of the operators I worked today were fantastic; thanks to all for your
patience……see you next time.
