Comments:

Conditions were brutal here -- weak signals under S7 power line noise. Took a
vacation day Friday to rig up a 3 element 80M inverted-V wire beam, interlaced
with a 3 element 40M beam on about 65' of rope boom. Only up about 60' for now.
Too bad these two bands weren't so good. A=22 and K=6 Saturday night. Still, the
wire beam made for a lot more Qs and call areas on 40 and 80. Couldn't work
anyone on 40M Sunday afternoon, despite hearing stations S9+ up and down the
band... something wrong in the antenna somewhere.

Despite very careful wire cutting, tuning was off on both bands with the
directors and reflectors up, and it's too complex to really get things where
they ought to be. I'll be rerigging it as a simple 2 element (driven +
reflector) for both bands, which should be much simpler to properly configure.
And I'll get it all above 75' or so.

20M was very noisy and virtually no EU openings either morning, which hurt the
country tally (about half of last year). 15M was a real disappointment, with
just 7 vs. 71 last year.

Enjoyed the contest a lot despite conditions. Now to get that wire beam working
as it should.
