KM9P was the original Extra class callsign of Bill Fisher, W4AN.  After Bill's
death in 2004 K4JNY claimed it as the new club call for our little Ringgold
contest group.  3 of the 7 ops this weekend had operated in Dahlonega from the
W4AN QTH down there - and many of the things we use and do at K4JNY were
inspired by example from Bill.  We are proud to keep his call alive.

The theme for the KM9P M/S this weekend would be best described as “preparation
pays off”.

We (6 of the 7 ops from this weekend) put in about 3 months of work at K4JNY's
leading up to this weekend:  the new 20m stack project/tower height increase,
new computers and network in the hamshack, new operating console, new audio
switching gear and for the very first time at K4JNY -- packet spotting via the
Internet available through CT!  Holy 1997, Batman, now we're talking!  TONS of
discussion about how we were going to best run the contest via email, telephone,
and in person as well.  We even blew off doing anything for ARRL DX SSB three
weeks ago leading up to this – we were doing antenna work and setting up the
shack that weekend instead.   

The new 20 meter stack with higher and more optimized antennas allowed us for
the first time to consistently keep and hold a 20m run freq on SSB.  Even with
almost the whole contest being 20m this time, we were on 14.226 before 1200Z
Saturday and stayed there for more than 10 straight hours without being forced
to move or frequency fight.

MVP award goes to W4NZ for building two audio switch boxes that allowed the
stereo output of the two receivers on the Orion to be routed to either ear of
two sets of headphones on the #1 run radio with all choices independently
switchable per operator (we used two ops on the main run radio to pull out
callsigns most of the weekend).  This made 40m split/dual operation seamless.  
Great, great upgrade to the operation.  

Daytime run ops were K4JNY, NA4K and K0EJ.  Night run ops W4PA and W4NZ, with
K4RO pitching in both day and night as we rotated in and out off the run radio
in 2 hour shifts per person.  KD4HIK was "marathon ears" as a second man
listening on the run radio and taking shifts on the multiplier station. 

Great weekend -- and I must say that KD4D M/2 score is very, very impressive.
