Comments:
Last minute decision to do this based on the qualifying contests for WRTC2010.
Had to build station more or less from scratch to enter, so just a very simple
setup, bt was nevertheless still building the station right up to the off (and
even then hadn't fixed everything which needed sorting). Station building time
on the Thursday evening, all Friday and Saturday morning was substantially
longer than operating time!
Had plans to try WinTest for the first time in anger, but no time to
re-configure the SO2R box and DVK to support it, so ended up running back to
TRLog at the last minute. It's a long time since I last did this contest and
I'd forgotten that TR really doesn't support it well and doesn't track mults by
band for some reason (big problem) or band changes (smaller problem). Wasted a
lot of time in the first 3 hours trying to tweak TR to work properly, but
failed and ended up trying to track needed mults and band changes on paper. It
didn't work very well and I was too slow to spot a lot of potential passes.
This fiddling about also lost me focus on the job in hand of making QSOs!
Had only a 4 square on 80 which was the wrong choice - often folks were equally
strong in all directions and were clearly way too high an angle to be in the
lobes of that antenna. Should have put up another dipole.
Thanks to everyone for the QSOs and hope to work you in another one soon.
Many thanks to Bob, G4BAH for the use of the station.
73,
Andy, G4PIQ
