Comments:
Everything was going fine until Thursday. The weather forecasts were for 90
Km/hour wind gusts. I woke up Thursday and everything was fine and I breathed
a big sigh of relief. By 2:00PM, the 80-meter four square elements were bent
over or broken and the forty meter yagi was pointed due north!
I wasn't able to even get simple dipoles to work Friday. I began to feel like
I was in a "Three Stooges" episode. Anyway, I managed to get one of the
80-meter four-square elements, which was bent over 90 degrees in the middle, to
load and started the contest at 0000!
The 40-meter yagi pointed North seemed to do well before dark on Saturday night
but otherwise I just felt weak on 40. 80 was a struggle all wekeend - I could
listen on the receive four-square but the Europeans just didn't hear me very
well.
Overall, activity from Europe seemed down somewhat but there are a lot of
really good operators there. Sending QTC's is easy - I think receiving them
must be much harder.
Lots of fun, though. PEI is a beautiful spot and we enjoyed our vacation
immensely. Thanks to all of the stations who changed bands for me to try to
get the multiplier total up. I managed to send EVERY QSO I had as a QTC this
year...I think that's a first.
I keep saying I'm just going to take the last hour or two off and quit looking
for multipliers. Well, OJ0B called in for a mult on 40 but the last hour was
slow.
Congratulations to Jeff, VY2ZM, for a great score from the Northeast part of
Prince Edward Island.
