Comments:

Well it sure started out like a SPRINT...run run run like the wind...and then 20
meters hit the wall. Off to 40 and it was hoppin again.....run run run again,
and even sooner, that same wall...two hours into a 4 hour contest, and the only
option left was 75m...and its 6pm local time! Well the SPRINT rapidly became a
JOG, then a WALK, and finally in that interminable last hour, a SLOG. Hour nr 4
was very much like trying to walk in thigh high mud, and it was mud for
everyone. In fact the slow motion cam was on for me, watching the likes of
K7RL, W6NL, N6RO, W9RE, KA9FOX, and KW8N slowly pass me in the middle lane,
while I crawled along the shoulder of the road. Congrats to those and many
others who were able to navigate through that last hour to an advantage..even
as slow as it was for all.
(And speaking about guts! check out K5NZ doing QRP SSB at the bottom of the
cycle in mud!!). My 115 Qs in the first hour was a real thrill..now THAT IS
ACTION!! but it wasnt long before I actually thought about starting an online
petition to end the event at 0300!! but as we all know .. its the Tortoise
that will win, even in an event called a Sprint. Thanks to K7RI for his
station. See you all next weekend in the CW event where I will be using a 1954
Vibroplex Bug to its full potential. I promise to practice all week, and today
might say hi to some of the FOC Contest boys, even though Im a SOC member
myself. (some of them may well have participated in the SSB Sprint if it didnt
conflict with their event, and their philosophy...and might explain some of the
"missing" easy mults...NE ND MO VE6 WV CT NH etc..) SO, today I clean the mud
of the fourth hour off my legs, start to type in my pencil log to the computer,
and start to think about next weekend and keeping the number of dits down to the
right count with my bug. FUN is, after all, what it's all about!! ...73 de K7SS
