Comments:

My first contest with the new call sign. Formerly W6ZF now W1KQ. Couldn't get
N1MM and MMTTY to work right so ran MixW2 and then exported the adi file to
N1MM when it was over.

Rig: FT-1000D with Inrad roofing filter recently installed by m'wa. AL-811H
Amplifier. microHAM microKEYER. Ran 550 watts of power into my linear loaded
dipole. The King Cobra...a larger version of K5JEK's Cobra UltraLite Sr. but
made with solid conductor #12 AWG CU Romex. Don't laugh it's been up for almost
three years now...and got it up to roughly 80 feet from 65 feet last summer.
I promised a friend and fellow ham that I would help him put up his OCFD on
Friday so he could work the NH QSO Party. Everything went up okay...let me say
that the first shot with the Hyper-Hanger (wrist-rocket, fishing line and solid-
filled drilled golf ball) up into the trees was perfect. Let me also say that
attempting to connect the 12# test fishing line to the 50# line didn't go that
perfectly. Yeah the smaller line got away and it took at least a half dozen
more shots before the perfect ones were repeated. Excuse:...it was #%@#%^ cold
and the wind was a blowin'. My feet were freezin' in the snow. And the sun
went down before we were finished. But...we did finish.
No pity parties please...but the muscles in my arms sure noticed the
workout...especially hitting the keyboard and trackball during the contest.
Guess I gotta get out and do that more often. The 20 oz. curls just don't
help. We went into the house and tested the antenna...I believe it was the
same one that was used at Boxboro '06. SWR was flat in the phone bands...75,
40, 20, and 10. Made my last contact as W6ZF to some hams in Indiana. It's
possible my call was already changed by then but the Internet connection was
flakey around that time.
Had to work Saturday...so Saturday night and Sunday were the only contesting
time I had. I really enjoyed it.
