Comments:

W4LEE is the club call of the East Alabama Amateur Radio Club in Lee County
Alabama participating in the AQP MMLP PH in the CLUB category with two radios
and 17 Operators. We're somewhat dissappointed to not see more clubs
participating; however Lee County is propably the only county that actually had
two clubs working the AQP. The Auburn University Club K4RY was in there with us
and just south of us in Russell County was the Russel County RC WX4RUS. We're
proud that these three clubs from the East Alabama area were in there
supporting the AQP. Last year, the Montgomery W4AP club was in it but we
haven't heard from them yet this year and we really expected some competition
from the Tuscaloosa, Birmingham and Huntsville clubs. Where were they? This
was a great warm-up for Field Day. The contest juices were running high with
great enthusiasm, hard work, some good humor and just a good ole fashion fun
time. We think its about the best contest effort our club has ever put forth.
The only down side was the S9+ noise level on all bands operating from
down-town Opelika, AL at the Lee County EOC. Contact hilites included QSO's
with Alaska and Guam. Several new and older Hams got their first exposure to
contesting including Dale Gulledge KI4KQE who came all the way from Chilton
county to participate in the AQP with us; Justin Fentress KI4UYZ who just
recently got his Technician License was accompanied by girl friend Elizabeth
Fowler who now says she'll get her license this summer; Johnny Langley KI4TAY,
an employee at the Lee County EOC who just got his license a few months back;
Jeffrey Wallace KE4UNA; and Rodney Quinton W4RDQ who were contesting for the
first time. Veteran supporting contestors included Bob Kribel KD4PK, Jim
Booton WA4KMM, Curtis Jennings KI4FUS, Justing Webster KI4KKZ, Matt Arnold
KF4AEJ, Stephen Wilkinson KI4GFF, Richard Battles WB4BYQ, Tom Moore WX4TM,
David Grantham WX4DLG, Matt Grantham WX4MAT, and Glynn O'Steen WB4PHG. Snacks
and pizza were provided by the EAARC, arranged for by Curtis Jennings KI4FUS.
Our contest organizer was Tom Moore WX4TM.
