Condx were reasonably good, nothing spectacular but I am grateful for little
aurora interference, with low A and K indices. The band seemed quieter than
last year in terms of noise, which made for improved listening on my part.
Last year I feel I missed numerous stations that heard me well but I did not
copy them, but this year I think this RX/TX balance was better. Still need to
put up a separate RX antenna.

Maximum distance was just over 6,700 km, to K8IA in Arizona and N6DZ in
California. New, or at least rare ones for me, were KV4FZ in US Virgin Islands
and OX3YY in Greenland.

Last year I managed to win the prestigious TBDC Aurora Borealis Award, after
outscoring TF3CW and TF4M (the latter by only 1 point!), and possibly others
who were operating from the northern aurora regions. Hopefully there are more
contenders this year for the award, which is given to the highest score from
QTH north of 60 degress geomagnetic latitude. You can verify if you qualify by
checking if your distance to grid FQ49 (the geomagnetic north pole) is less than
3,333km or 2,071mi. One way is to determine this is using the grid distance
calculators at http://www.chris.org/cgi-bin/finddis or
http://www.brars.org/distance/index.php .

Thanks to the organizers of this great event. Look forward to the upcoming
160m contests and the Stew Perry TBDC in 2009!
