Comments:
If you can't work VA at least on 40M, you're DOA for the VaQP and that's the way
it was most of the time excpet for a good 30-40 minutes around noon on Sunday.
During that time, I discovered 3 mobile/portable stations who were never heard
before and ran a quick 20 Q's on phone, what a difference that makes! WA4PGM
was roaming around Richmond about 120 miles away at the time and appeared
before the big opening and lasted a while after most of the rest faded away for
some reason, but there were many times I could people working him with little or
no copy here on 40. Steve, K4C aka K4EU 80 miles away and I ran the bands with
good copy every time Sunday afternoon; 10M produced the loudest signal due to
best and highest antenna here on that band.
My excuse for the poor showing besides the summer level QRN Saturday/long skip
was my wife's and daughter's birthdays the 16th/17th. We went out to dinner
Sat, and I played "laundry maiden" while the went to garden show Sunday. Then
my Mom came down for dinner Sunday. Congrats to Kyle, WA4PGM for covering most
of the state and the new mobile record and thanks to all of the portable and
mobiles active! Don't forget to try 80/75 for us close in guys.
