Comments:

I was not sure if I would be able to even participate this year because of the
broken hand and finger I got in a recent auto accident. The doctor told me it
would be good to take off the split cast and practice moving my fingers. I
asked about typing.... he said that would be good exercise. So for the five
days before ARRL SS I practiced moving my fingers. For the most part, it
worked. My run speed was limited as was my duration due to low level pain and
arm / hand cramps, but with lots of breaks and ice, I was able to operate for
about 19 hours. My actual CW speed never went over 28 WPM as I was hoping to
control the required typing speed to keep up. In most cases it worked.
Success.

As the goal was to maximize score, I again entered in the Unlimited class. In
the end the only mult that I used the cluster to get was ND. I was VERY
pleased to have VY1EI call me at 0440 while I was doing one of my slow runs on
40. Then soon after I got back on Sunday morning I saw KE0A posted on 20. So,
buy 1347 I also had ND in the log and my sweep was done and I could concentrate
totally on Qs.

Conditions were excellent on all bands and with the beverages both 40 and even
80 were a total pleasure. The only issue was that they worked so well I
occasionally missed some first replies to my CQ because I could not hear
California on my N or NE bev and the same for New England on W or NW bev.

One comment that others may or may not agree with dealing with ending serial
numbers. In my opinion, sending ONLY what is needed would be much more
efficient. Meaning, do not send leading zeros. I had to ask for numerous
repeats from weaker stations simply because I could not tell if the leading
zeros were a needed Q count number.

I am now looking forward to SS-SSB with an improved ability to have longer and
faster runs as long as my hand and finger continue to cooperate.

73,
Bruce - N1LN
