Lots of hard work through October heat (here in Qatar, still over 100F) to
install
all new antennas on Ali's 26m and 20m towers in time for the big contest:

Win-Test
Extremely pleased with the Optibeams. Major improvement over last year's
effort
using a single 40m element.
New hams A71CV and A71AD had significant on-air time to face the pileups both
ways
and learned a lot.
Some of the "Wow!" moments:
0430 ZX5J worked LP on 15m!
1232 FY5KE worked on 10m!
0242 W7AT worked SP on 40m! (K7RL, too, a few minutes later!)
0438 VE6SF worked SP on 20m with the KL7's!
1400 a FB pileup of W's on 15m!
1640 AH7C worked on 40m!
1836 VO1MP worked on 40m!
2345 XE1CQ worked on 40m for WAZ in the contest (not just on 40)
Tough times:
160 signal could only work big guns and a huge buzz noise covered most of the
band.
80 signal was not good enough to CQ; lots of CQ's in our faces.
10 never really opened to Europe while we were on the band, though we could
hear the
ZS's and others running them.
Propagation was great considering no spots. Things are looking up, we worked
more
stations in Zone 5 than 25 this year.
