Comments:
Vic, N4TO passed away on August 15 and we decided to have a memorial operation
in his honor. Vic hosted many multi-ops over the years and a number of those
ops managed to come together this weekend at the K1TO QTH for a hastily planned
M/2. It has been a long time since the last multi-op here and the setup was
substantial.
We chose to use the special callsign N4T which turned out to cause a lot of
angst. Many times, the DX station would get the full call, but give up and not
log us because they were convinced that they did not have the full call. Given
that many other countries have 1x1 callsigns active in contests, we found this
somewhat puzzling.
Conditions were about as good as they could be with no sunspots, we thought.
Although our impression was that we were not doing well on 10 because a lot of
the Caribbean and CA mults were skipping right over us, the scores indicate
that we did well with 100W on that band after all. A few QSOs were only heard
quickly (P40A, 6Y1V and others), then never heard again.
We missed z23/26 on 20, but still enjoyed plenty of neat multipliers.
75/80 is always the toughest band from down here in Florida, but we were able
to get some answers to CQs and the band was nice and quiet.
The final hour on 160 was at once exhilarating and frustrating. Many new
multipliers were heard from EU, but we were only able to be heard by a few, and
one amp developed a problem.
Our rate was never consistently fast, just slow and steady. In fact, we had no
hours over 100 on a single band in the entire contest (even with 549 USA in the
log - hi).
Many thanks to Jeff, WC4E for pulling together the CT network on short notice.
Jeff is a veteran of WRTC and several PJ2T efforts and is enjoying a resurgence
of operating lately.
John, W4IX drove many hundreds of miles at the last minute to join the group
and despite not sleeping at all on Thursday night, spent more time in the
operating chair than anyone. Despite being called a "cowboy" by one southern
European, John was our most consistent and persistent run op.
Julio, AD4Z/HI3A brought his K3 whioh we used on the 3rd station barefoot.
This ended up being the 10 Meter station. While the lack of an amp at that
station reduced the number of stations we could work, we all enjoyed the
opportunity to try out the K3. Julio made Dominican spaghetti on Saturday that
was a great reminder of last year's M/2 in the D.R. as HI3A at which N4TO was an
op.
Ron, WD4AHZ helped beforehand with ground crew support, then operated all
weekend, filling in whatever role he needed to. Being a LP op at home, Ron's
forte is sniffing out mults.
Chris, WF3C is one of the younger guys in radiosporting here in the USA at age
26 and continues to blossom and progress.
Tom, K4MM (W4IX's dad) spent most of the weekend with us. Tom loved the dual
headphone boxes and helped John out for many hours while also playing whatever
role was needed.
Terry, N4TB made his first SSB QSOs in almost 2 sunspot cycles on the K3!
Fred, K4LQ helped with some logistical support and some spare N4TO equipment
that was needed.

CQWW SSB is still the king of all DX contests. Thanks for all the QSOs. We
met our goals of honoring Vic, having lots of fun and cranking out points for
the FCG.
RIP Vic, N4TO.
Very 73, Dan, K1TO
