Comments:
I think that the lack of sunspots mirrored my motivation in this contest. There
did appear to be reasonable 15M propagation, but not a lot of activity. I
concentrated on the low bands in an attempt to pick up some new DXCC, which I
think I did. Some of the lowlights of the contest were the unruly pileups. At
one time, J38A appeared on 160. There were so many alligators out there, I
thought I was in Florida. Stations would incessantly call and call when the DX
was trying to reply. Other times the DX would ask for a specific partial call
and so many would ignore the directive and just drop their call in over and
over. At one time I was calling CQ on 160M. A zone 15 station came on and
told me to QSY. He then slid up 300Hz to his QRG. 300Hz. That is plenty of
room on a crowded band. I could not hear him at all with my filters set to 300
or 400Hz and I am sure my 100W wasn't interfering with him. On the positive
side, there appeared to be more activity on the low bands this year. Looking
forward to the 160 contest next weekend. On Sunday, I got cabin fever and took
a short trip to a club station, W1GLO, and operated for a little bit from there.
They actually had a real HF tribander! Thanks for all the Qs and see you next
year.
