Comments:

This is my second year in a row in Aruba. Special thanks to John KK9A (P40A)
for the use of his home with all the antennas.

The primary reason for this trip was to operate the CQWW WPX RTTY contest last
weekend. Me and the XYL carried 170 lbs of equipment for a full SO2R setup
with two of everything: 756Pro3, laptop, NIR-12, DXP-38, keyboard, trackball,
etc. Since we were already here and not anxious to return to Illinois in
February, we planned a two week stay so we could operate in this contest.

Friday night started out fast with 985 qs before taking a 3 hour break We put
up a flag antenna for receive on 160 (Tnx K0DQ) and used John’s top loaded
54’ vertical for transmit. Only had 91 contacts and 35 mults on that band
which may bite me in the end.

Saturday was an overall good day. We kept the second radio on 10 meters
sending alternate cq’s for hours with no results. I could hear the southern
SA boys but no USA. Saturday night was noisy due to wx in the area so spent
most of my time on 40.

The first half of Sunday was disappointing because 15 meters didn’t open very
early. A few Q’s between 1600Z and 1800Z. Didn’t really get going until
2000Z. Since 15 was so bad, I didn’t even mess with 10 on Sunday. The last
few hours were fast and furious on both 15 and then ending with 20.

Tnx to everyone for all the qs. Worked several on 5 bands. This was good CW
practice for someone who hasn’t done a serious CW contest since the 80’s.
Looks like all the brain cells aren’t gone yet. Hope to cu in Dayton and
contest university in the spring!

73, Roger N4RR/P40R
