Comments:
First serious SSCW contest for this CW-challenged operator. Did 95% S&Ping as
anything over 25 WPM required two or three passes to get all the exchanges
right. Even then, I had difficulty telling the difference between 7's and 8's,
and sometimes between 8's and 9's.
The other 5% or so QSOs I did attempt some running at 20-22 WPM up in the band,
and I was mostly successful at logging the contacts. I logged 29 QSOs as being
QRP, so this must be a popular class to enter. There were a few others whom I
could not quite pull out, so I apologize to those who did not make it into my
log.
Early in the test many stations only sent one or two characters for the serial
number. Also being typing challenged, I had difficulty clicking back on the
serial number which I had just entered to insert the leading zeros, in the
meanwhile forgetting the rest of the exchange. Also, I mistook the letter "B"
for being a "6" on a few of these early exchanges. But I did manage to use the
SCP data file that PVRC provides for filling in the forgotten data. But I am
afraid that my logging program swapped some of these two-digit serial numbers
with the check numbers before I finally realized what was going on.
I did note that one station was sending a check number of 37! This was from a
fellow PVRC club station K4IX.
I did manage to work 78 out of 80 sections, missing only NL and NWT in Canada.
The most important thing that I did for this contest was to have fun!
73, Sam W4PK
