Comments:
First of all, thanks to George for letting me once again operate his fine
station. Used two Elecraft K3's; One is mine and the the other loaned thanks
to K5OT. Still some learning curve for this old dog, but I'm convinced I
copied a number of stations I would have had to NIL in the past.
Got off to a decent start on 20M - kind of strange first three hours -
97-104-110 - too bad the trend didn't continue!!
Had a great frequency on 40M for the next 5 hours, averaging 86/hour, then
things started slowing down a bit so took an offtime. Back on and off over the
next several hours with naps thrown in.
Wa able to start "walking" on 20M in the 13Z hour, and 40m was productive as a
second radio band. However, never could seem to get the rate much over 40 on
Sunday (had a 46 at 16Z and a 48 at 20Z, but everything else 40 or below.
15M was marginal, and beginning about 17Z, started getting some drizzle, which
caused 20-30 over 9 rain static on 40M. Trudged ahead CQing on 20M until 18Z
when a nasty thuderclap hit, followed by more. Unhooked everything for an
hour. The thunder & lightning quit & got back on at about 19Z. The rain
continued all afternoon without lightning. 15M was a little better, but not
much. 40M was pretty useless with rain static most of the afternoon. So kept
CQ-CQ-CQing on 20M.
More huge thunder & lightning at 0000Z. Unhooked everything again. After 45
or so minutes, didn't look like it would let up, so packed it in & got some
shuteye.
May have been able to make mid to high 1400's if I could have used the
remaining 2:20, but no way I could have caught N2IC - what a score - Congrats
Steve!!! And congrats to all the other high scorers.
Thanks to all for the QSO's. Hope to be QRV from home (here in WTX) next year
- the house is almost finished, and will start tower work immediately upon
moving in.
73, Gator N5RZ
